Greenlandic Mining III 1/2

The exploration for graphite in the area of Sisimiut had been done since the beginning of the 1900’s and at Eqalussuit (earlier known as ’Gl. Egedesminde’) test quarrying was carried out in two periods around 1903 and 1912.

Only an estimated 10-50 tons of graphite was extracted even though a large expansion of the activities was planned during World War I with a harbour, mining town and factory.
