Issue 17th October 2016
POST Greenland releases new stamps
This issue despatch includes eight stamps, one souvenir sheet, one stamp booklet, two mini sheets, two souvenir folders and one Year Pack. The stamps will also be issued affixed to First Day Cover envelopes. The stamp themes reflect historical and current as well as cultural topics in Greenland.
‘Zackenberg’, ‘Greenland during World War II’, the ‘Royal Couple’s Copper Wedding Anniversary’ and ‘Christmas in Greenland’.
The last issue despatch in 2016 starts with two stamps designed by Naja Abelsen who has artistically depicted the research station ‘Zackenberg’ which is located in Northeast Greenland.
A new series, ’Greenland during the Second World War’, is released on the same day. Naja Rosing-Asvid is the female artist who has designed the series which, by 2020, will depict the whole war seen through Greenlanders’ eyes.
The Royal Couple will celebrate their ‘Copper Wedding Anniversary’ on 14th November 2016 and we mark this occasion with a wonderful stamp showing the entire Crown Prince family wearing their beautiful national costumes. The photograph is taken by the Court photographer Steen Brogaard.
Keeping true to our tradition, we issue the two Greenland Christmas stamps both as normal stamps printed on gummed paper and also in a self-adhesive format. This time it is the young artist, Sissi Møller, who has designed the Christmas stamp images.
Finally our 2016 stamp year is completed with the release of our Year Pack in which all the 2016 Greenland stamps and souvenir sheets are included.
You will find more information about the new stamps in POST Greenland collector’s magazine, Greenland Collector, which can be downloaded as a PDF document in Danish, English and German on www.stamps.gl
