Greenlandic architecture II 1/2

Separately and also together, the four attractive and interesting new stamps provide insight into the architecture and its development in Greenland. Then and now.

The two stamps show two different architectural styles which, today, characterize Greenland’s architecture.

COLOURS

During the colonization houses were built in the North Atlantic building tradition - in different colors. The use of color continued in major public housing developments. The many colorful neighborhoods are most conspicuous and characterize Greenland’s towns and settlements by this special Greenlandic building style.

NATURAL FORMS

More recently, the architecture of major public buildings has been inspired by nature. The Northern Lights are seen as an undulating facade, the sea is experienced in an undulating roof and mountains glimpsed in the silhouettes of the buildings.
